History
Market Blooms opened in the reading Terminal Market in January of 2003. At that time, we took over space occupied by the former Miriams Market Flowers. Our customers include center city residents, office workers, convention visitors, and tourists. As a very small store, we tried to offer high quality plants and cut flowers as well as gardening and houseplant supplies. In addition, we featured an every changing selection of unique and fun garden gifts for children and adults and small garden themed home items. We quickly developed our own loyal customer base who loved our fresh look and always asked us for more, more, more!
As our store bulged from the seams with more and more merchandise, we told the market management we really needed more space. During the spring and summer season of 2005, we expanded our selection by taking a small store front down the aisle from us. We opened an "Herb Annex" and sold fresh potted herbs, herb seeds, herb growing kits, fruit and vegetable plants, and herb related gifts.
The following year (2006), "The Flower Basket," located on the 12th street side of the marked decided to close after more than twenty years in the terminal. Market Blooms began leasing this new space and began working with Juliet Whelan of Jibe Design to begin renovations on an all new Market Blooms! We reopened our exciting new space just in time for the Philadelphia Flower Show in the spring of 2007. This expansion allowed us to rename our original location "Market Blooms and Garden" and to expand our plant and garden related offerings.
